Two Kinds of Basements
Brewers Hill is a neighborhood in transition — century-old rowhouses next to new infill construction, old industrial buildings converted to lofts. The basements split two ways: the rehabs, with old walls and small original windows, and the new builds, which should have compliant egress already (verify — "should" and "does" are different things). We work on both: cutting the old, checking the new.
Conversions and Code
Converted buildings live under scrutiny — permits, inspections, and buyers who ask questions. If your Brewers Hill conversion has basement sleeping space, the egress window needs to be documented and compliant, not just present. We size to the code minimums and keep the paperwork clean for the file.
The New-Build Check
Bought new infill with a basement bedroom? Walk down and check the window against the minimums — 5.7 square feet of clear opening, 20 by 24 inches, sill at 44 inches or lower, and a well with a ladder if it is deep. If anything is off, call us. Even new construction gets it wrong sometimes, and the builder's warranty is worth using.
